SGA responsibilities
This week marks the end of the Student Government Association elections, heralding the beginning of a new SGA administration. Unfortunately, the election process itself highlights the deficiencies of SGA this year. While events such as SGA Week have increased the visibility of this crucial organization on campus, the voting record for the Presidential and Executive Vice Presidential elections speaks of a general campus apathy towards the very body chosen to represent them. Less than three thousand students voted in the Undergraduate Presidential and Vice Presidential races, even less than last year’s low turnout of four thousand.

So, I guess it’s that time of year again, the time of last hurrahs and swan songs, when all of us graduating seniors get to take on the role of the stuffy old actor who’s on his last performance. We’ll reminisce about the good times, say the bad times weren’t really that bad, leave tidbits of advice for the young and then contemplate our futures.

I think that it’s just now sinking in that I’m graduating in three weeks. I’ve been trying to keep myself in denial as long as possible since I’m nowhere near finishing my capstone project. I don’t want to admit that maybe, just maybe, I’m supposed to start acting like a responsible adult, and thinking about it kind of makes me feel old. Though speaking of feeling old, it seems that the longer I’m here, the harder it becomes to not feel old on a somewhat regular basis. Once or twice, I’ve made jokes about creating an “It might be time to graduate if…” list.

HOT: Voters amend
The three referendums voted on during last week’s elections of the Student Government Association all passed. The creation of the Joint Judiciary Cabinet and the updates of the amendment policies of the legislative governing bodies were much needed updates to the SGA system. It shows foresight on the part of the voting student body to take the time to read and approve these motions.
