Provost Schuster named interim president

Twenty days after Institute President Wayne Clough announced that he will be stepping down from his position after holding it for 14 years, the Board of Regents has named Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Gary Schuster as the Interim President. The decision will be effective July 1 following Clough’s official last day at Tech.

Presidential elections go to runoff

On Friday, April 4, the Student Government Association (SGA) Elections Committee announced the results of the 2008 SGA elections; both the undergraduate and graduate presidential races have gone to runoffs which end today at 4 p.m. While over four thousand students took the time to vote, this is a significant reduction compared to last year.

Sportsmanship pledge to enter Honor Code

The latest initiative of the Honor Advisory Council is the sportsmanship pledge, a three-pronged statement aimed at dealing with the behavior of fans during football games. The cause: unruly fan behavior at the Boston College game last fall.

Father Mario of Catholic Center leaving after 38 years

After almost 38 years as the campus minister at the Catholic Center at Georgia Tech, Father Mario Di Lella, O.F.M. is retiring from service. On Monday, May 5, Father Mario will leave the Tech community for a retirement community of Franciscan priests, the St. Anthony Friary in St. Petersburg, Florida. His legacy, however, will live on at Tech.

Pre-Dental Society Provides Dental Care to Homeless

On April 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Tech Pre-Dental Society will be providing dental education, dental sealants, dental exams and oral cancer screenings to homeless shelters. They have chosen the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children (ADSWC) for the site of their first outreach event. The ADSWC is located at 665 Ethel Street NW.

Trashing Woody’s

Woodruff Residence Hall was the site of two instances of property damage during a span of 24 hours. On April 3, an employee of Housing called GTPD from Woodruff South to report that he had found ten burn spots in the carpet located in front of a kitchen on the third floor. The next morning in Woodruff North, a student reported that two tables and carpet located in the fifth-floor community room had been spraypainted green.
