Violent crimes hit north campus
While Tech has always dealt with crime around its perimeter, a string of violent incidents has placed the Tech campus on alert. Georgia Tech Police have responded to what officer Grant Hawkins calls “a surge in crime in all of Atlanta” through increased patrolling and awareness campaigns. However, the number of students affected has continued to grow.

Tech will celebrate Student Appreciation Day, an annual event better known as Sting Break, on Thursday, April 10. In the past years, Sting Break has held a concert and invited several mainstream bands to the campus. This time is no different, as the band OK Go will be the featured act this year. In addition to the concert, people taking part in String Break will also be able to participate in carnival rides, a 120 foot obstacle course and a gladiator jousting arena, all related to this year’s theme “Joustin’ Jackets.”

The Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts held its eighth annual Founder’s Day in celebration and in memory of former Atlanta mayor Ivan Allen Jr., for whom the College is named. The event took place at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center on March 31, recognizing recipients of the Ivan Allen Jr. Legacy Awards: the Award for Progress and Service, and the Essay Award.
